What is the difference between traditional refrigerants and R290 Propane?

The primary difference between traditional refrigerants and R290 Propane is that R290 is classified as extremely flammable and is a natural, hydrocarbon. The benefit over traditional refrigerants is that there is zero ozone depletion potential and typically requires smaller charging requirements.

Does R290 have to be recovered?

R290 can be released into the atmosphere if all safety precautions regarding handling the release of flammable gasses complied with.

Can I retrofit an existing refrigeration unit to be compatible with R290 propane Refrigerant?

No, this is an inherent safety risk that has not been approved by any governing authority that would ultimately put the unit and operator at risk.

What type of containers does R290 come in?

R290 is available in a wide variety of containers depending on the application from #1 to 1,000G+ bulk tank, in most cases a cylinder equipped with liquid withdraw is required for refrigeration charging.
